What is Cupuacu Butter ??

Pronounced " coo.poo.ah.soo"

Cupuacu butter is a highly emollient butter that is cultivated in the jungles of Colombia, Bolivia & Peru from the Cupuacu tree. I came across Cupuacu during my DIY hair care journey while I was researching alternatives to Shea Butter that offer the same moisturizing benefits for hair because I find that Shea butter just sits on top of my hair and does not penetrate or do anything for my hair at all and we don't like that! Good news is Cupuacu butter is actually able to absorb 4x its weight in water, making it the ideal ingredient to lock and seal moisture deep into the hair strand for longer periods of time than shea butter. (I said wow).

Cupuacu butter is rich in 5 of the main fatty acids which are : Oleic acid, myristic acid, lauric acid, stearic acid and palmitic acid. Products with high fatty acid content help promote hair elasticity and durability so cupuacu butter is definitely an ingredient you should be happy to see in a potential hair product when you are shopping around.

Cupuacu is also a great vegan alternative to lanolin and shea butter for those with skin sensitivities.

Give Cupuacu butter a try today with Sterling Naturals Mango & Cupuacu hair butter and let us know what you think, your curls will thank you!
